Big News for TM and Heart Health 💙

Sometimes science catches up with what many of us have known for years. Taking a few quiet minutes each day can make a big difference to our health. This week brought some wonderful news.

Transcendental Meditation® (TM) has been included in the brand-new U.S. national guidelines for high blood pressure from the American Heart Association (AHA) and American College of Cardiology (ACC).

Why is this so exciting? Because these guidelines are the gold standard in cardiovascular health. They shape the way doctors, nurses, and healthcare systems approach one of the world’s biggest health challenges: hypertension. Nearly half of all adults in the U.S. live with high blood pressure, and it’s a major risk factor for heart disease, stroke, and dementia.

And here’s the headline: TM is the only meditation practice specifically named in the guidelines. That recognition comes after decades of consistent scientific research showing how TM helps lower blood pressure, reduce stress, and support overall wellbeing. Other practices like yoga and breathing exercises are mentioned too, but TM stands out for the strength of its evidence base.

For those of us who practice TM, it’s not surprising.

We’ve experienced the calm, clarity, and balance it brings into daily life. But it’s wonderful to see that now acknowledged at the highest levels of medical science.

As someone helping to guide TM operations here in South Africa, I find this milestone deeply encouraging. It reminds us that small, simple practices can have life-changing — and even life-saving — effects.

So, here’s to more calm minds, healthier hearts, and brighter futures.
