Meditation is a safe alternative, particularly Transcendental Meditation. Transcendental Meditation, or TM is the most widely practised, extensively researched and most broadly prescribed by doctors of any meditation technique in the world. We meet many people who have tried several types of meditation, including mindfulness, which involves focusing the attention. Everyone says the same thing: TM is the most calming kind of meditation — but its up to you what system you choose. TM is by comparison so easy to learn and to practice.
